The newly formed HELAAS project is the sonic encounter of the four Berlin-based artists BEX (soon on RuR), NIEDOWIERZANIE, RATBAG (also in Last Dominion Lost) and YVAN VOLOCHINE. A psychedelic noise-drone mamouth where each of the four protagonists leaves his mark, yet achieving coherence in a first album which is at the same time harsh and subtle, grating and warm, and at times highly lyrical. Somewhere between NWW and Troum, with a post-rock touch. (TuT/RuR)

Un nom chirurgical, pour un phénomène scénique: voilà trois ans que Sonic Surgeon étonne l’Europe et ses environs par ses inventions sonores, et l’étrangeté de son univers. Technoïde et archaïque, née du croisement d’un jack et de la peau nue, sur une voix envoûtante jusqu’à l’intime, la musique d’Atlan aka Sonic Surgeon est une expérience. Celle d’une figure de l’underground européen, d’un ouvreur de voies, inventeur de friches artistiques. Des murs de Londres, Kassel, Lisbonne, aux toiles parisiennes, le geste ici lâché, là concentré, porte la signature d’Atlan : la vibration. A entendre et à voir, pour une séance d’envoûtement. A lunar world, both cool and emotional, filled with organ and free-reed soundscapes, rustling, swirling and simmering drones and celestial harmonies which take you back to a primeval and elemental state. Feel like a rock in the middle of the ocean or a fossilised oak tree in a dark ancestral wood as Nature Morte’s nightfall music soothingly flows around you, both feather light and heavy with secrets.
